A cylindrical vessel of height 500 mm has an orifice (small hole) at its bottom. The orifice is initially closed and water is filled in it upto height H. Now the top is completely sealed with a cap and the orifice at the bottom is opened. Some water comes out from the orifice and the water level in the vessel becomes steady with the height of water column being 200 mm. Find the fall in height (in mm) of water level due to the opening of the orifice. [Take atmospheric pressure =1.0 × 10 ^ 5 N/m ^ 2 , density of water = 1000 kg/m^3 and g = 10 m/s^ 2 Neglect any effect of surface tension.]

An open glass tube is immersed in mercury in such a way that a length of 8 cm extends above the mercury level. The open end of the tube is then closed and sealed and the tube is raised vertically up by additional 46 cm. What will be length of the air column above mercury in the tube now? (Atmosphere pressure = 76 cm of Hg)

A solid block of volume V = 10^-3 m^3 and density d = 800 kg/m^3 is tied to one end of a string, the other end of which is tied to the bottom of the vessel. The vessel contains 2 immiscible liquids of densities 1 =1000 kg/m^3 and 2 = 1500 kg/m^3 . The solid block is immersed with 2/5th of its volume in the liquid of higher density & 3/5th in the liquid of lower density. The vessel is placed in an elevator which is moving up with an acceleration of a = g/2. Find the tension in the string. [g = 10 m/s^2 ]
