Two charged metal plates in vacuum are 10 cm apart. A uniform electric field of intensity ( 45/16 )×10^ 3 N/C is applied between the plates. An electron is released between the plates from rest at a point just outside the negative plate. (a) Calculate how long (t) will the electron take to reach the other plate? (b) At what velocity (v) will it be electron take to hits the other plate?

Protons are projected with an initial speed vi = 6 km/s from a field-free region through a plane and into a region where a uniform electric field E with arrow = −900 ĵ N/C is present above the plane as shown in in the figure below. The initial velocity vector of the protons makes an angle θ with the plane. The protons are to hit a target that lies at a horizontal distance of R = 1.15 mm from the point where the protons cross the plane and enter the electric field. We wish to find the angle θ at which the protons must pass through the plane to strike the target.

Figure shows that E has the same value for all points in front of an infinetly charged sheet . Is this reasonable ? One might think that the field should be stronger near the sheet because the charges are so much closer.
